Monthly budget calculator
Find out what’s left after bills and savings, and how much you can spend per day for the rest of the month.
To work out a monthly budget, take your monthly take-home pay, subtract fixed bills (rent, utilities, phone, debt payments) and the amount you want to save. What’s left is your spending money for everything else. Divide it by the days left in the month to get a daily spending limit.
Calculations run only in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.
How to use the result
- Pay bills and savings first. Move your savings amount on payday so it isn’t mixed with spending money.
- Watch the daily number. If you spend less than it today, tomorrow’s number goes up; if you spend more, it goes down.
- Log as you go. The number is only as good as your tracking. Writing down each purchase the moment it happens is the habit that makes a budget work.
- Review at month end. Compare what you planned with what you spent and adjust next month’s bills or savings goal.
Frequently asked questions
Should I use gross or net income?
Use take-home (net) pay: the amount that actually reaches your account after tax and deductions. That is the money you can budget.
What counts as a fixed bill?
Anything with roughly the same amount every month: rent or mortgage, utilities, phone and internet, insurance, subscriptions, loan and minimum card payments.
My income changes every month. What should I enter?
Enter a conservative figure, such as your lowest month in the last six. If a month comes in higher, put the extra toward savings or next month’s budget.
